This past month has seen some amazing new releases in the smartphone arena, especially from Google and Apple. Of course, the iPhone X is the newest Apple release. Some of its features include a display that has no bezel, new FaceID technology, the disappearance of the home button and wireless charging.
From Google, we have the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. These wonderful new phones differ slightly in appearance, with neither being as future leaning as the iPhone X. However, they do have some advantages of the four digit priced Apple phone.
Here are five things that Pixel 2 has that the iPhone X does not have:
A decent price
Starting at about $650, the Pixel 2 is actually more akin to the iPhone 8 while the Pixel 2 XL, at about $850 is between the iPhone 8 and X. The overall idea is that you will not be spending a thousand dollars on the Pixel any time in the near future.
Virtual Reality Support
Apple has always lagged behind other manufacturers when it comes to virtual reality. Because of this alone, the Pixel smartphones are certainly more fit for the virtual reality future than any of the iPhones. In fact, Google recently updated the Daydream View virtual reality headset with a new design that is just made for the new Pixel. This is a great way to get started in virtual reality without spending the money it would take to get the HTC Vive or the Oculus Rift.
A Fingerprint Scanner
Fingerprint tech and the scanner that goes with it has been very important to many smartphones for the past few years. It makes unlocking your phone very personal and secures any payments you might send from your device as well. However, since Apple did away with the Home button that means the fingerprint scanner is gone as well. Apple replaced this with FaceID, but many people still miss the traditional fingerprint scanner. Google placed their scanner in a convenient location on the back of the device, which is much more comfortable than Samsung’s placement on their recent phones.
Front Facing Speakers
People use their smartphones for so many things that require audio, this feature is a wonderful addition. It is also one of the most requested from Google users.
Stock Android Software
One of the best Android features is the Google Assistant, which keeps getting better and more convenient.
